Today (7 December) at the EU-US Cyber Dialogue, the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) signed a working arrangement to combine efforts in exchanging best practices and boosting awareness around common cyber challenges. This is an important milestone in the co-operation between the US and the EU in tackling cybersecurity challenges in the face of advancing digital technologies. It consolidates existing cooperation as well as opens doors to new ones, including ad hoc information exchanges on cyber threats.

Dr Ilia Kolochenko, chief architect at ImmuniWeb and Adjunct Professor of Cybersecurity and Cyber Law at Capital Technology University, said of today’s news: “While this Working Arrangement will unlikely create a tectonic shift in the transatlantic cybersecurity collaboration, it is an important and long-awaited milestone. For a while already, US and EU lawmakers and regulators had different, sometimes polarized, opinions about regulating cybersecurity, data protection and privacy. The EU Digital Services Act (DSA) or the recent EU AI Act illustrate divergent approaches to tech regulations.

“The newly signed Working Arrangement between CISA and ENISA is poised to bring the so-needed congruence and cross-compatibility to cybersecurity regulation on both sides of the Atlantic. Importantly, bilateral information exchange on the emerging cyber threats will bolster detection and resilience capabilities even against the most sophisticated cyber-attacks. While joint training and awareness programs will help establish common standards and approaches to build efficient and effective cybersecurity capacities.” Read Full Article
